IMPROVE YOUR DEEP READING ABILITY

Comic books improve your deep reading ability. Recent neuroscientific research shows that comic books and graphic novels are talking to the brain in a particular way. A way that enhances and increases comprehension and retention. And big corporations  all over the world have become aware of this too.

That means that corporate comics are gaining foothold in the business world. Comic books and graphic novels are now used in product development, change management processes, pitches and advertisements. In a time where employees and customers are exposed to massive communicative noise every day, comic books can be one of the solutions.

GLOBAL PLAYERS ALREADY USE COMICS

Large global companies like Google, Zappos, Peugeot, Twitter and eBay are already using comics (corporate comic books). They use it both internally and externally as an active part of their communications. Comics are used for product development, employee and leadership development, advertising, customer service and customer guides.

COMIC BOOKS TRAIN YOUR BI-LATERATE BRAIN

Research shows that our brains change. This is because we don’t read that much on paper anymore. In order not to lose our capacity for depth reading, we must train our brains to be “bi-literacy” so we can control when to skim and when to deep read a text.

And Bill Kartalopoules (American comics guru) points out that comic books is a media that trains the bi-literacy brain. Because comics are created in such a way that they activate the part of the brain that reads up and down – and the part that jumps from branch to branch.

COLLEGES IN THE US USE COMIC BOOKS

In the US (during the last 10 years) lots of teachers have begun to advocate that text books in universities and in schools should be rewritten as comics. This is because it would enhance learning. For example you can check out the comic book “Atlas Black: Managing to Succeed” by Professor Jeremy Short, Tayla Bauer and Dave ketch, and “Bound by Law” by professors at Duke Law School.

NEW YORK TIMES – BEST SELLER LIST OF COMICS

Even the New York Times has seen the light and has created a Best Seller List of graphic novels / graphic novels. This is the “heavy” format of comics (they are as long as books).
